Her early successes in the performing arts, which are now known by the name of Maureen O'Hara, would certainly qualify her for being in the "child prodigy" category. However, for an Irish girl with talented parents and extended families, these qualities were normal. Maureen came to this loving sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. She was raised by her parents and family members. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share of "The Shamrock Rovers," an eminent Irish soccer squad. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a fan of rough and sporting games in her youth and was a pro in athletics. Additionally she was gifted acting. This is why she received almost all of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances in her country of birth. At the age of 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her passion for classical theatre and opera singing.
